April 27, 2026 | By Bill Yucuis
NATCON is the organization’s annual national conference, bringing together Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings members from across the country to conduct official business, develop leadership skills and build professional connections. Cadets participate in voting on organizational business and recognizing outstanding members and units.
Ten cadets from the University of South Florida’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 158, representing the Arnold Air Society Gen. James V. Hartinger Squadron, attended the AAS National Conclave (NATCON) held April 3-7 in Dallas, Texas.

These are the Region IV cadets at NATCON, which includes USF AAS.
The conference also featured a lineup of senior military leaders and distinguished speakers who provided insight into leadership, service and national defense. Among them were Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force David Wolfe. Also of note were Lt. Gen. David Harris, Deputy Chief of Staff for Air Force Futures, who opened the event, and the Honorable Dave Weinberg, who shared leadership lessons during a keynote address.

Additional speakers included NASA astronaut Mike Fincke, who recently spent 167 days in space and commanded the International Space Station. Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Larry Stutzriem, executive vice president of the Air & Space Forces Association, delivered a keynote during the AFA luncheon. Arnold Air Society trustee Molly Mae Potter highlighted a heritage project to fully restore the First Air Force One aircraft to airworthy status by 2027. Col. David Sulhoff from AFROTC Headquarters provided updates on potential changes in the AFROTC program. Ms. Kim Toney, SES, and her team from the Air Force Personnel Center discussed how personnel policies shape the careers of Airmen and Guardians.
The USF cadets’ participation was supported by the Waterman-Twining AFA Chapter. During the conference, the cadets engaged in national-level discussions, collaborated with cadets from across the country and gained valuable leadership experience.
A Detachment 158 cadet also received national recognition at the event. Cadet Nathan Grafton earned the Arnold Air Society Commander’s Award for his outstanding service as Region IV commander, highlighting his leadership and contributions to the organization.
