Pitsenbarger-Award Narrative
11 Mar 25
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have cultivated a deep commitment
to service, leadership, and personal development. As a pharmacy technician and a student
pursuing a Bachelor of Health Science degree, I have gained valuable experience in healthcare,
teamwork, and leadership that have shaped my aspirations to serve as an officer in the Medical
Service Corps (MSC) of the Air Force.
In my role as a pharmacy technician, I have developed essential leadership skills through direct
patient interaction, medication management, and working collaboratively with healthcare
professionals to provide the best possible care. Along with my CCAF in Pharmacy Technology, I
also obtained my national pharmacy technician certification and my Associate of Science in
Health Sciences. I have learned to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment, ensure the
accuracy of medication dispensation, and take on increasing responsibilities, including training
and mentoring new staff members. These experiences have not only sharpened my leadership
abilities but have also strengthened my capacity for teamwork, as I often work alongside
pharmacists, physicians, and other medical professionals to ensure patients receive optimal care.
My passion for service extends beyond the workplace. I have volunteered extensively with my
local church, where I assist with health outreach programs, community wellness initiatives, and
education on preventive healthcare. I am also mentoring and tutoring younger student’s athletes
interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. These experiences have taught me the importance of
giving back to my community and the value of leading by example, which is the essence of good
citizenship.
My immediate academic goal is to complete my Bachelor of Health Science degree. I plan to use
this degree as a stepping stone to my next major aspiration: commissioning as an officer in the
Medical Service Corps (MSC). I am eager to contribute to the Air Force’s medical operations and
play a role in ensuring the health, readiness, and well-being of military personnel. My goal is to
commission as an MSC officer, where I can help lead medical teams, manage healthcare
resources, and ensure the highest standards of care for service members and their families.
In conclusion, my career as a pharmacy technician, my commitment to volunteerism, and my
dedication to academic excellence have all fueled my aspiration to serve as an officer in the
Medical Service Corps of the United States Air Force. I am excited about the opportunity to
complete my Bachelor of Health Science degree and contribute to the Air Force’s mission by
providing exceptional healthcare services, leading medical teams, and ensuring the well-being of
those who serve. I am confident that my skills, experiences, and dedication make me well-suited
to make a meaningful impact in the Air Force as part of the MSC.
